Families-
It has been a crazy busy week in 5th grade. We are still working on some procedural things...but this is a really sweet group of kiddos...a bit chatty at times, but really sweet.
We are in NEED of an Art Mom. If you are intersted in teaching the kids an art lesson once a month from the Art Council please contact me!
Odds and Ends:
Book Order due on Friday - Sept. 28th. You can order online. Info for that is on our webpage under parent resources.
Be sure to check out our webpage as kids are posting what is going on daily! www.graysfifth.weebly.com I'm also adding some links of different sites we have used in class.
Challenge homework will come home next week and is posted on the website. This is an at home monthly project. They need to pick one activity to complete.
Book it will also be coming home next week. This will be a part of your child's reading grade. They will need to read 20 min a night/5days a week. The total minutes will be posted on the calendar.
Curriculum:
Social Studies- We are learning about government. This week they started a project on the 3 branches of government. This is a at school project. A few kids decided to do a power point, so they might have some work on Monday night for the project. My goal is that it is done on Tuesday, but if we need more time that is doable and they wil be given more class time.
Science - We are working on the human body and learning about the body systems in general. Today we start talking about cells!
Math - the first unit was tested today. Kids should get their tests back on Monday. Just a reminder that any redo work for math is due the day of the test. Kids were given this reminder multiple times this week! On Monday your kiddo will be taking a district pretest in Math. There is no studying, this doesn't affect their grades at all. Just wanted to give you a heads up that they might be talking about it on Monday.
Reading/Writing - we are working through the program. This week the kids worked on identifing story structure (setting, characters, problem, events, and solution) as well as simple subject and predicate. Ask your kiddo about the story we read, "A Package for Mrs. Jewls."
Grades - don't forget to have your child check their grades on Zangle and let me know if something isn't correct. One student this week logged in and came to me about a score in zangle that wasn't correct. They were super sweet and respectful about it! They came to me with the study link page and said that the wrong score was in zangle. I logged in right away and changed it!
Redo Work - Your child is bringing home their friday folder and in it might be some work that needs to be redone. They have until Monday to do this! We talked about the importance of checking their folder before they go home to make sure they had everything they needed to redo any work. I will only accept redo work on Monday. If it is turned in on Tuesday the assignment will not be graded.
Computer Lab - this week your child got their login and user name to www.everydaymathonline.com This is a great resource for them and you. You can look at family letters, kids can print a missing study link page, and there are some math facts. You might see this as homework during the week. T he program allows me to track kids progress with math facts!! yeah! Your child has their login information. Some stapled it in their planner, others I'm not sure what they did with it. Ask them about it. Let me know if you need a new one! Have a great weekend! Let me know if you have any questions! Melanie
